HMB & HICA are both metabolites of leucine. Leucine alone is the most powerful amino acid out of all amino acids for activating protein synthesis, preventing muscle tissue breakdown and is also referred to as the most important amino acid for building muscle.
HMB in effective doses has been shown to be far superior at preventing muscle tissue breakdown and speeding up recovery than Leucine but is nowhere near as effective as signaling protein synthesis. HICA has shown to be far more superior at activating protein synthesis and causing new muscle growth than Leucine alone but is nowhere near as effective as HMB or Leucine at speeding up the recovery of broken-down muscle tissue.

WHAT ARE BCAA’S?
BCAAs refers to three amino acids: leucine, isoleucine, and valine.
For people with low dietary protein intake, BCAA supplementation can promote muscle protein synthesis and increase muscle growth when combined with weight lifting. Supplementation with BCAA’s can also be used to prevent fatigue as they also play a vital role in providing energy during your workouts.
Leucine, the most anabolic amino acid, plays an important role in muscle protein synthesis, while isoleucine induces glucose uptake into cells. Valine has been shown to aid in tissue repair, and the maintenance of a proper nitrogen balance in the body and also be used as an energy source by muscle tissue.
Supplementing BCAAs prevents a serum decline in BCAAs, which occurs during exercise. A serum decline would normally cause a tryptophan influx into the brain, followed by serotonin production, which causes tiredness and fatigue during your workout.

WHAT DO BCAA’s DO?
BCAA’s act as nitrogen carriers which assist the muscles in synthesizing other amino acids needed for protein synthesis. In simpler terms, BCAA’s combine simpler amino acids to form a complex whole muscle tissue. In this action, BCAA’s stimulate production of insulin, the main function of which is to allow circulating blood sugar to be taken up by the muscle cells and used as a source of energy. This insulin production promotes amino acid uptake by the muscle.
HOW DO BCAA’S WORK?
During intense weight training, the body is normally in a highly catabolic state. At this time glycogen stores are being rapidly depleted and the liver, in turn, must synthesize glucose by a conversion of L-Alanine. Alanine makes up over half of the amino acid content released from muscles during exercise.
The release of BCAA’s is generally recognized as the signal to the body to stop protein syntheses in the muscles, especially during times of stress. Providing additional Branch Chain Amino Acids, especially during those times of stress may profoundly affect this signal and allow protein synthesis to continue rather than being halted.
WHEN SHOULD I TAKE BCAA’S AND HOW MUCH SHOULD I TAKE?
You can consume BCAA’s all day, every day. On training days the best time to consume them would be before, during and after intense exercises. We recommend adding 1 full serving of TNT BCAA Triple Charged to 1 liter of water in your TNT water jug and consume from start to end of your workout.
On non-training days we recommend you fill your TNT 2.2ltr water jug and add 2 full servings and drink throughout the day to maximise recovery and hydration.
